How To Improve Self Esteem Feel Happier About Yourself In 7 Steps

Self esteem is practically how we feel about ourselves. We develop our self esteem as we live life each day; we do not inherit it or have it since we were conceived. We all would like to live a happy and successful life; but this is easier said than done, especially for people who are afflicted with low self esteem. Good thing we can transform ourselves and our self esteem. Nevertheless, you can't just improve your self esteem overnight, it is a long and often difficult process that needs commitment. Below are 7 easy steps to guide you on how to improve self esteem:

Step One

Assess your problems realistically. You have to have a realistic assessment of your problems so you can find the right solutions for them. For instance, traffic and a bad hair day won't become problems if you don't look at them as such. You need to accept the fact that life is and will never be perfect--it will always come with difficulties, problems and challenges.

If our evaluations are realistic, we're better able to respond to day-to-day life events with a sense of proportion.

Step Two

Don't compare yourself with others. In this world, there will always be someone greater than you, in the same way that you are also greater than someone. You will find yourself feeling short very often if you keep on playing the comparison game.

Step Three

Find out which things actually trigger low self-esteem. Determine which areas in your life are actually pulling your self esteem down and avoid them or better yet, find ways to improve them. For instance, if you catch yourself feeling bad often because of the way you look then work on making yourself look better--work out and wear the right clothes.

Step Four

Stop putting yourself down.

If you keep on criticizing and pulling yourself down, you will never develop a healthy level of self esteem. Rather, repeat positive affirmations. Positive statements and affirmations allow you to experience positive and motivating feelings. Whether speaking about your appearance, your job, your relationships, your financial situation, or any other aspects of your life, avoid self-deprecating comments. You should be your biggest fan!

Step Five

Be in the company of supportive and positive people. The people that surrounds us have an enormous influence on how we feel about ourselves. Being with people who constantly make you feel inferior would do you no good. On the other hand, your self esteem is sure to improve if you are constantly in the company of people who encourage you all the time and accept you for who you are.

Step Six

Do something! If you just keep worrying about your self esteem issues, you will never get anywhere near a healthy level of self esteem. When you act, regardless of the end result, you will Feel Better About yourself. If you let your fear and anxiety hold you back from taking action, you will end up feeling frustrated, unhappy and dissatisfied with yourself.

Step Seven

Learn to forgive yourself when you don't accomplish all that you set out to. I am not saying that you are gonna be unsuccessful, but if you are, learn to openly accept that failure is a part of being human. Keep in mind that as you go along, you will realize that setbacks may turn into something positive in the long run.
